Rankin Climate - 2024 Student Survey on Sexual Misconduct

The University of Utah is one of several institutions participating in this Sexual Misconduct Climate Survey. The Sexual Misconduct Climate Survey is designed to measure our campus climate regarding sexual harassment and sexual violence (sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking). Climate surveys have been identified as a best practice for universities to understand sexual misconduct on their campuses better.

Who Can Take the Survey?
All enrolled Students will be invited to participate in the survey.

How Can I Take the Survey?
You will be invited to participate in the survey through your University of Utah’s email account.

How Long Will the Survey Take?
The survey can be completed in less than 20 minutes. However, all students are encouraged to provide in-depth feedback regardless of time.

Will my Answers be Confidential?
Yes. The results will be presented in summary where no individual can be identified. {DISCLAIMER SIMILAR TO: However, if we learn about child abuse or about a threat of harm to yourself or others, we are obligated to report it to the authorities.}

Where will I see the results of the survey?
The consultant, Rankin Climate, will provide a comprehensive final report in Spring 2025 that includes an executive summary, a narrative outlining key findings from selected cross-tabulations, statistical summaries such as frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, as well as a content analysis of textual data. The report will offer high-level summaries of the findings and identify prominent themes.

Why are you asking about these sensitive topics?
To understand the climate at the University of Utah, the survey needs to ask direct questions about topics that some may find sensitive. It is only by directly collecting this information from you that the University of Utah will be able to help prevent negative experiences and effectively respond when they do happen.

I have never experienced sexual misconduct, should I participate?
All students are invited to participate to understand their perspectives as well as the entire campus climate.
