Campus Climate

Climate Survey

Building and maintaining a healthy campus climate free of discrimination and violence requires consistent and conscious efforts on behalf of the University and each member of our community. The University of Utah remains committed to its mission of fostering student success from diverse backgrounds for lives of impact as leaders and citizens.

As mandated by the Utah System of Higher Education, in 2024, the University of Utah conducted a campus climate survey to assess the prevalence of sexual harassment and misconduct on our campus. This survey also measured students’ awareness and perception of campus resources and responses related to sexual harassment and misconduct. The 2024 Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Survey for Students represents The University of Utah’s fifth administration of a sexual assault climate survey; part of the institution’s continual effort to assess, understand, and respond to campus climate needs.

 Campus Climate Matters

University of Utah policy prohibits sex discrimination, which includes sexual misconduct. Sexual Misconduct is the most egregious form of sex discrimination. Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is the comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.

Policies, procedures, and resources are in place to take immediate and appropriate steps to remedy violations of University policy and the university will take steps to end or eliminate the hostile environment, prevent its recurrence and to remedy the effects, as appropriate under each individual’s circumstances.

Complaints of sexual misconduct should be made directly to the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX. Please see the Title IX Coordinator Outreach letter to learn about your specific rights to seek out Supportive Measures and options for accountability through the OEO process or through law enforcement.

Survey Findings
The university’s 2024 Rankin Climate Survey on Sexual misconduct assesses the current climate and prevalence of sexual misconduct on campus as provided by students. We encourage our University community to review these results, and most importantly, review the key takeaways, findings, and subsequent action-steps resulting from these data. The information gathered from this survey provides our campus with important insights into student experiences, and helps us shape our services, programs, and resources at the U. Results from this survey highlight both the important progress we’ve made as a campus community and particular areas for advancement as we endeavor to create a thriving campus community.
